The tide troughs and so we begin
August 16, 2017
Months of waiting for this semester of adventures.
If the waters of the ocean were the accumulation of my anticipation, the tides have subsided and now it is time to make it really happen.
Packed a suitcase 50lbs full of clothing, skateboards, magazines, and cameras...
& so we begin.
First Was Oslo
Half an hour later I was skating into this beautiful city as hundreds around me headed to work paying me little mind as I weaved thoughtlessly and wide-eyed through the streets, excited to finally be in Europe.
Knowing my airbnb was close to a sculpture garden, I finished skating the manual-pad, conveniently located in front of my airbnb and which I had seen in skate videos months before my arrival. I headed in the direction I hoped was right, and again got help from a welcoming local, and found I was around the corner from this spectacular view:
Image of Vigeland park oslo entrance
I skate down the bridge past hundreds more tourists who seem amused by this grinning boy taking a video on his phone flying through the little bridge at 8 AM, and make my way up to the top of the park, where at the summit, I look down on the entire city below. Oslo had welcomed me with open arms, and the adventure was just beginning.
August 22, 2017
After a connection in Iceland and a flight bypassing time zones such that I never experienced more than maybe 3 hours of darkness- I arrived almost 24 hours after my departure from Richmond (somehow wide awake) standing in the middle of the brisk, misty looking capital of Norway at 7:30 in the morning. As I followed the mass of travelers leaving the train station into the city center I wandered into the first of many helpful Norwegians who quickly opened her GPS in her phone directing me to the street where I was headed.
From Philosophy to Prost | Oktoberfest 📍 Munich, Germany July 07, 2018
After several weeks of living in the Kartause, (consisting of trekking nearby mountains in failed search for mysterious fabled caves whilst philosophizing on Plato's own) we were given our semester's first free weekend to travel on our own- with an entire continent at our fingertips.
I found myself planning a trip to the opening weekend of Munich's famous Oktoberfest celebration with a group of girls I met through Theresa LeChard. A special Thank you to Dom Gallo for joining at the last minute, he was more than welcome as one of the most loyal and genuine people I knew, and a comfort to me as I’d no longer be the only guy on this exciting adventure!
We raided our school's collection of traditional Austrian/German clothing, packed our passports, Spar-brand cookies, and left early in the morning, nearly missing our bus as usual. Anticipation grew as we boarded the last high-speed train with a destination of Munich.
Speeding noiselessly through the European countryside in beautiful weather almost certainly provides breathtaking views of ice-capped mountain ranges and perfectly preserved towns that are hundreds of years old.

The Legacy of Puritan and Enlightenment Principles in American Business Ethics
Senior Thesis
Abstract
This paper seeks to examine foundational business ethics in America as constructed by Puritan and Enlightenment thought. Primarily, the economy was founded in the spirit of absolutism, hard work, and individualism that was embedded in the rigorous Calvinistic tenets of Puritan religious practice. These values predisposed the early colonists to accept the economic theories of Enlightenment thinkers such as Baron de Montesquieu and Adam Smith as they drafted a new American economy founded upon a capitalistic free market and a decreased moral culpability within the sphere or business. While the framework of the economy crafted by the Founding Fathers remains intact in the modern era, new interpretations of individual agency and ethical responsibility have distorted the original intent of the system, permitting and promoting dishonesty, greed, and desensitization to unethical business practices. Evidently, an inherent contradiction exists between the idealistic Puritan principles that founded American business and the relativistic and often pessimistic beliefs that govern modern thought. In spite of an apparently dismal trajectory, a restoration of virtue ethics emerges as a potential means of purifying the practice of business in America.
